Nice-Monique and Angel kimaryo are sisters, born and raised in Dar-es-salaam. both discovered they have a passion and talent for braiding hair earlier on, Angel discovered the world of crochet braids in 2015 and attempted to do it on herself with a bobby pin taking 2 days after her sister refused to do it on her , when everyone loved how it turned out , they wanted to get their hair done by her, she shared the tutorials with her now willing sister who already had a background in business and seeing an opportunity for business, they set out to start accepting clients on their free time as they were still in University!
Crochet braids was not known or as popular as it is today in Tanzania, there were no tools and We had to purchase the first from Nairobi. We managed to penetrate the market by introducing something fresh and sharing client photos on our instagram page that garnered many followers, especially after our work as seen on hon: Jokate Mwegelo, It is safe to say We popularized the style to what is is today in Tanzania. with the same consistency of quality and creativity we managed to grow our instagram page to over 15,000 followers that continue to convert into customers to-date.
Not long after, our clients wanted different, they wanted softer, longer, more colors, more curls and that is when the idea of creating custom hair extensions for them, came about. This pursuit of bringing Kimz to the market took 1 year and a half and We never looked back.
Our parents were our first investors in the idea and believed in it even when We were not sure what the future holds for us. They were just proud that their children were gaining a name for themselves and remained positive and optimistic that our dreams would yield good results. Our immediate family was also not far behind as they helped us to renovate our salon and office just in time for the launch and have remained very supportive throughout & helping us when we need them. Our friends have been a big support system from the beginning from helping us decide curl patterns, advising on brand names, volunteering as cover girls for our product packaging to agreeing to test our products first, helping us during trade shows to organizing the launch and ofcourse they are our very first customers. it is safe to say truly we have not been alone in this journey and to date this support system continues to believe in the dream and to support it fully.
